Yes – with Able2Extract Professional 14.0 you can password protect an already existing PDF file, as well as create a PDF file from some other file format (e.g. from Word file / Excel file etc.) and then put a password protection on that newly created PDF document.
To password protect your existing PDF file, please perform the steps given below:
- Open the PDF in Able2Extract Professional 14.0 application.
- Click on the Edit button on the toolbar.
- Then from the Edit menu choose "Encrypt Document" option.
- In the Encrypt Document dialog that will appear please enter your passwords – both user and owner password. (Also, please make sure the user password is different than the owner password.)
- Now you will be able to add file permissions that can allow or restrict users of your PDF file to print, copy content, modify the document etc. To restrict certain permission, just uncheck the corresponding check-box.
- After you have done this, click on the OK button.
- To save the changes you have made to your PDF file, click on the Save button on the toolbar.
(On the other hand, if you wish to save the encrypted PDF file under the different name, select "Save As..." option from the File menu. In the Save As dialog that will appear, give the edited file a name and select a location; then click on the Save button.)
On the other hand, if you would like to create a secured PDF from some other file format, please follow these steps:
- Open Able2Extract Professional 14.0 application.
- On the menu bar click on the View and select "PDF Creation Options...".
- In the PDF Creation Options dialog select Security Tab.
- On the Security Tab check Secure PDF check-box.
- In the fields below this check-box enter your passwords – both user and owner password. (Please make sure the user password is different than the owner password.)
- Now you will also be able to add file permissions that can allow or restrict users of your PDF file to print, copy content, modify the document etc. To restrict certain permission, just uncheck the right check-box.
- After you have done this, click on the OK button – if you want to use this setting for one session only, or click on the Save as Default button and then on the OK button – if you want to keep this setting permanently.
- Now click on the Create button on the toolbar.
- This will open a new dialog where you'll be able to browse for a document you wish to convert to PDF. When you find and select the file, click on the OK button and wait until the file is completely opened in Able2Extract application.
- Please note that the file is not automatically saved as PDF, after it’s being opened – to save the file, click on the Save button on the toolbar, or go to "File -> Save As..."
- In the Save As dialog give your PDF file a name and select a location, then click Save.
